- ItemAcademic Challenges faced by Students in Higher Education during COVID-19 Pandemic(2020-07) Uzorka, Afam; Makeri, Yakubu AjijiThis research examines academic challenges faced by students in Higher Education during COVID-19 pandemic. The population of the study consisted of undergraduates, postgraduates and lecturers in selected universities in Uganda. The researchers adopted qualitative approach which involved the use of questionnaire and interview. 120 students and 10 lecturers participated in the study. Questionnaires using a 5 point Likert-scale were administered to all 120 respondents while interviews were conducted with 5 undergraduates, 5 postgraduates and 10 lecturers. Data analyses indicated seven main academic challenges faced by students in higher education during COVID-19 pandemic namely: lack of e-learning facilities, financial constrain, Conducive environment, teachers attitude, learning new skills, lack of interest and stress and anxiety. Based on the findings, there is need for adjustment requiring all tiers of education to respond to a new and evolving strategy in order to have a continuous flow in education process, making education accessible, affordable, anytime and anywhere, mitigating and restraining the effects of any gaps created by any form of disruption in education system

It is the centre for research, human resource development and highly dependable to proffer solutions to global needs therefore, quality assurance in this industry cannot be compromised. In order to ensure a peak performance by these institutions of higher learning there is need for modalities that will enhance quality output. In this paper, some of the strategies for enhancing quality tertiary education were discussed.
- ItemSTAFF DEVELOPMENT AND ACADEMIC STAFF OUTPUT AT THE UNIVERSITIES IN SOUTH-SOUTH GEO-POLITICAL ZONE OF NIGERIA(2020-02-19) Menwoukechiosigwe; Ben, Idoli, Nwachukwu; Nwogbo, David; Uzorka, AfamThis study dealt with staff development and academic staff output at the universities in South-South geo-political zone of Nigeria. It was an Ex-post facto design study, carried out specifically in three federal universities in the area of study.These were: University of Port Harcourt, Choba; University of Uyo, Uyo and University of Calabar, Calabar.Two hypotheses based on the variables were formulated to guide and direct the study.These were: staff in-service training and staff ICT training, respectively. Two self-constructed questionnaires called staff development questionnaire (SDQ) and academic staff output questionnaire (ASOQ) were used for data collection. The first instrument was administered to 800 academic staff.The second instrument, three copies were administered one each to three students to assess each individual academic staff.Data collected were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and independent t-test. The results revealed among other things that; there existed an influence of in-service training on academic staff output, which is not significant. Statistically, there existed a difference between output of staff who received ICT training and that of those who had not; but the difference is not statistically significant.
