- ItemIncome contribution of fish farming on households: A case study of Bushenyi district(College of Economics and Management, 2012-08) Murokora, Moses BegumanyaThe study was carried out with the aim of finding out the income contribution of fish farming to households in Igara County-Bushenyi District. The data was collected using a questionnaire which was edited, coded, entered and cleaned using Epi-data and then was analyzed using the statistical package for social scientists. It was found out that fish farming is actually a source of income as it has opportu11ities for gain full employment. The industry provides the fish farmers with incomes and food proteins and this contributes to their social productive roles as they can afford to purchase goods and services. It was deducted that the survey results reflected and agreed that the fish farming sector has a significant impact on the incomes of the fish farmers in Igara County and Bushenyi District. As one of the recommendations the fish farmers in Bushenyi should strive and work hand in hand with the fisheries office and fish farmers association of Bushenyi so as to strengthen their bargaining power in their endeavours such as the acquisition and expansion of markets for their products.
- ItemNAADS programme and farmers' wellbeing in Sembabule District; A Case Study Lugusuulu Sub County(Kampala International University, College of Economics and Management, 2013-07) Katwere, AmosiThe topic of the study was NAADS program and farmers' wellbeing in Sembabule district a case study of Lugusuulu Sub County aimed at establishing the relationship between NAADS program and farmers' wellbeing in Lugusuulu sub county Sembabule district. The study was guided by four specific objectives that is; to find out the demographic characteristics of farmers; to find out the levels of NAADS programme implementation; to find out the levels of farmers' wellbeing and also to find out the relationship between NAADS and Non NAADS farmers' levels of wellbeing in Lugusuulu sub cotmty Sembabule district. The hypothesis of the study was that, there is no difference between NAADS and Non NAADS farmers' level of wellbeing at 0.05level of significance. The study used a case study design because it presented an opportunity to conduct an indepth investigation of the relationship between NAADS program and farmers' wellbeing. Besides this, a case study was chosen because the NAADS program is not in Sembabule district alone, it covers the whole of Uganda and the study could not be conducted in the whole country. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used in both data collection and analysis. This study found out that NAADS farmers were better off than Non NAADS farmers in Lugusuulu Sub county Sembabule District as regards to income levels and no significant difference in terms of livestock levels kept. It was also revealed that there existed no difference between NAADS and Non NAADS farmers' seasonal crop yield levels. The study concluded that since NAADS farmers have higher income levels than Non NAADS farmers, NAADS program has contributed towards farmers' wellbeing through boosting their income levels and therefore NAADS fanners are better off than Non NAADS farmers although more efforts are still needed to improve on some sectors like crop production and livestock levels. This study thus recommended that, the government should supply good quality seeds in order to boost on the levels of crop yield per season; the District NAADS coordinator should ensure monitoring and supervision of the program implementation processes so as to achieve the program objectives.
- ItemRole of Islamic banks in welfare improvement: case study First Community Bank, northern Kenya Wajir Branch(Kampala International University,School of Business and Management, 2011-12) Hussein, Aden MohamudThe people of Wajir have a long time and still earning their living from livestock keeping like camels, cattle, goats, sheep and very few from peasantry agriculture where bananas, maize, mangoes, tomatoes are grown majorly for subsistence purpose. The minority of people in Wajir district are dealing in motor vehicles mechanics, taxi drivers. The majority women inclusive are petty traders with retail and wholesale business in Wajir district: The research focused on the role played by First Community Bank Ltd as an Islamic commercial Bank to the society in Wajir District. During the study period oral interviews, observation, questionnaire, journals and review of library materials were used to collect the necessary data. It was recommended that the feasible way to foster welfare improvement in Wajir district is by extending/offering credit services to the society by Islamic banking institutions and also to mobilize their saving culture and target them to profitable microeconomic ventures. In this way, many will get access to funds which can be invested and in time they may raise enough so as to fend for themselves. It is hoped that when the number of people who get access to those credit services increase in Wajir district, welfare improvement will be as well be checked.
