    Employee attitudes and performance in local governments of Uganda: a case study of Nawanjofu sub county, Butaleja district in eastern Uganda

    This study set out to find out the relationship between employee attitudes and performance in Local Governments. It was guided by three research objectives as follows: (I) To find out the relationship between employee attitudes and productivity in Nawanjofu sub county Local Government, (II) To determine the relationship between job satisfaction and productivity in Nawanjofu sub county. (III) To determine how employee involvement improves service delivery in Nawanjofu Sub County. The study used a descriptive cross section research design which involved establishing the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable. The quantitative data was obtained using structured questionnaires from different categories of people such as respondents from the Nawanjofu sub county Local Government, while the qualitative data was obtained from key informants, interviews and observations. The study was based on a population of 100 individual members with more than half of it constituting women where a sample size of 30 was selected. Quantitative data from questionnaires were analyzed by use of figures, and frequency tables. After the data was collected, hand written notes were assembled and typed into word processing program-MS word. The findings on the study revealed that there is a positive significant relationship between employee attitudes and productivity in Local Governments. The result implies that as employees improve on attitudes towards work, their productivity in the local government will increase. Since this leads to the rejection of the null hypothesis that there is no relationship between employee attitudes and productivity in Local Governments. This finding was subjected to verification to test the hypothesis; there is a significant relationship between employee attitudes and Service delivery.” by comparing the significance of the correlation to the recommended significance that employee attitudes have a strong and positive relationship with revenue collection in Nawanjofu sub county Local Governments. This means that increased adherence to employee attitudes is expected to improve on revenue collection within Nawanjofu sub county Local Government. The study concluded that job satisfaction, performance, Involvement, staff commitment and Performance are associated and inter-related and together lead to the realization of organizational objectives. Some other factors which influence on the performance should be explored by further study. The study recommended that Performance standards should be established and communicated to the employees by the local government of Uganda. This will help employees to achieve the standards and perform well. Employees who are reaching standards and or above standard should be appreciated and rewarded, Fair pay, benefits, promotion opportunities and good supervision should be in the organization to satisfy the employees in order to enhance the performance, Good leadership styles as to fit for the organizational conditions may be satisfied the workers and ldentifying weaknesses of employees may be the best one to improve the Worker’s performance, because it indicates the area which training should be Provided.

    Population increase and land fragmentation in Kawempe division, Kampala Uganda:

    [here has been a steady population increase in Kampala City over the last century that is considered to be one of the causes of land fragmentation in Kawempe division. High birth rates. immigration and urbanization are one of the causes of population increase in Kampala. Land has been sub divided into very small portions of land owned by diff~rent individuals. This has slo~~ed down the general development of the area since there is limited land for development. [his research examines the relationship between population increase and land fragmentation in Kawempe division by determining the causes of population increase, its influence on land fragmentation and the impact of land fragmentation to the general development of Kawempe. Kawempe is a division in Kampala city-Uganda. among other divisions of Kampala Century l)ivision. Rubaga Division. Makindye Division and Naka~sa Division.KaWcmpe is located on mc northwestern edge of Kampala. It is bordered by Nabweru to the north. Kisaasi to the eats to the south. Kazo to the southwest and Nansana in Wakiso District to the hostilities stud> found out that among other causes of population increase in Kawempe division. immigration ~2O%) and high birth rate (16%) are the most causes. Population increase (24%) and ~cii> (18%) are the most factors that lead to land fragmentation while limitation in economic development (27%) and poorly planned urbanization (24%) are the most evident deflects of land fragmentation in the area. l’he study recommends use of land use and land ownership and policies to solve the general problem of land fragmentation. Alongside that sensitization and extension work should be implemented to influence family planning to cub down population growth and reduce poverty respectively

    Women empowerment and social-economic development in Matany sub-county, Napak district, north eastern Uganda

    The research report covered the women empowerment and social economic development. the case study was matany sub-county in napak district. the study objectives were to establish the economic status of women in matany sub-county, to establish the social status of women in matany sub-county and to establish the level women’s participation in politics in matany sub- county. the researcher used the sample size of 70 out of the total population of 85 target population and the researcher used Morgan table or formulae to determine the sample size. The findings of the study were that women have contributed much in social economic development of matany sub-county in particular napak district and uganda at large; women have headed most of the organization, constructed houses, educating their children and relatives. the researcher recommendations were; the government should extend infrastructures in rural areas like matany sub-county so as to improve on the market access of women. in this way, women will be in position to sell their produce to earn an income and will be economically empowered. the government should also give sofi loans to women in rural areas and charge them interest rates according to the work done. the government should also train officials to sensitize rural people about the usefulness of education in the person’s and country ‘s development .in this way, the number of girls who drop out of school will reduce, women enrollment in higher institutions will increase and the economic empowerment of women will increase. they should take into consideration women’s economic activity schedule and time them rightfully. in this way women won’t be able to miss their seminars and workshops. they should also fulfill to women what they promise them. they shouldn’t incite people when they are not in position to fulfill their promises. people should take into consideration the usefulness of gender division of labor in their homes in this way; women will have enough time to participate in seminars and workshops of organizations which empower them. people should take their children to school especially the girl child. This will improve on the levels of their economic empowerment.

    The impact of corruption on service delivery in lira district a case study of Adekokwok sub-county

    The study sought to establish the relationship between corruption and service delivery a case study of Adekokwok Sub County-Lira district. The researcher was guided by three objectives namely; To explain the effects of bribery on contract awarded to potential bidders during the procurement process, to examine the effects of misallocation and embezzlement of public funds on the access of good health Services and to explain the impact of bribery on youth employment in Lira district. A representative sample was chosen for this study which ensured that all relevant types of people are included in my sample and that the right mix of people was interviewed. The determination of the sample size will be based on Slovene’s formula used to determine the sample size. In Conclusions the findings were that this independent variable affects service delivery either negatively or positively as revealed by respondents in the questionnaires. In view of the above, many of the respondents had positive responses towards some of those challenges that come as a result of living in a corruption free zone or rightly and all these have great impact on service delivery

    Influence of Cultural Practices in the Promotion of Girls and Women’s Rights Case Study: Ngora Sub-County, Ngora District.

    The study was set to evaluate the cultural practices and girls and women rights in Ngora sub-county Ngora District. The study objectives included the following; establishing the cultural practices that promote the rights of girls and women in Ngora Sub-County Ngora District, Find out cultural practices that violate the rights of girls and women in Ngora SubCounty Ngora District, and identifying the measures that can be used to protect and promote the rights of girls and women in Ngora Sub-county, Ngora District. The study was based on the descriptive survey research design on qualitative research approach. The study sample population was 88 respondents chosen from the cultural leaders, politicai leaders, civil servants, and selected population from Ngora Sub-County. The study findings were that cultural practices violate the rights of girls and women. These cultural practices have kept the people in Ngora Sub-county in bondage and nothing much has been done to eliminate them and they include; early marriages, son preference, female circumcision, widowhood practices, nutritional taboos. Besides the cultural practices promoting their rights are; formal education for girls, right to chose a partner to marry. the findings were that the need for Openly, Individuals Should Condemn the Negative Cultural Practices, Perpetrators of Harmful Cultural Practices Should be punished by Legal Action,. Traditional Rulers Should Enforce Rules against Harmful Traditional practices in Their Communities, The government should make these harmful practices illegal, Church leaders should excommunicate members who remain perpetrators of harmful Cultural practices. Based on the findings, the researcher recommends that Government through the Ministry ofr Gender enhance affirmative action and enforcement of laws on girls and women rights, sensitization of people through the village Elders and Chiefs and Forums.
