Abstract
High level of youth Unemployment is one of the critical socio-economic problems facing Uganda [MGLSD 20121, while the labor force grows with an increasing proportion of the youth, employment is inadequate to absorb labor entrants hence the youth are affected by unemployment. Youths are more likely to be employed in jobs of low quality, engage in dangerous works or receive short-term employment, [Haftendom and Saizano 2009], Despite the efforts by the government, high levels of
Unemployment among the youth persists in the country. Youth with fonnal education
level had low probabilities of being employed and their Unemployment rates is at
18% compared to 13.3% who had completed some stage of Education. Various
measures have been taken by the government to alleviate the problem of youth
Unemployment, 175.57 billion shillings was provided to MGLSD to support 120
youth projects in the country [Budget frame work paper F/Y 2018-2019]. The study
therefore seek to establish the effectiveness and the relationship between youth
unemployment and livelihood.
