Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of domestic violence on girl child education in Lira District. The objectives of the study were to investigate whether drunkenness affects girl child education in lira municipality; to find out the extent to which unfaithfulness affects girl child education in lira District and to assess the effect of poverty on girl child education in lira District. The methods used for data collection were questionnaires to the major respondents and interview guides to the key informants. The study discovered that that the drunkardness of the parents affects girl child education in the sense that Parents who go drinking spend all the money meant for education of their children especially girls. Poverty affects girl child education in the sense that Lack of food in the home forces children especially girls to go farming. The study recommended that the government should Accelerate the law reform process to harmonize domestic legislation with the constitutional principles related to non discrimination and equality between women and men; undertake the speedy enactment of the Domestic Relations Bill and the sexual offences Bill; introduce public education and legal literacy campaigns relating to the convention and the international and national commitments on the elimination and discrimination against women.
