    The impact of free primary education on early childhood development in Kakuku Primary School, Yatta District Kenya

    Despite the importance of Pre-School as a foundation for the country's formal education, the Ministry of Education spends less than one percent of its budget on this sub sector. The General objective of the study was to determine the impact of free primary education on early childhood education. The research study was conducted between December 2008- April 2009. The study was carried in Kakuku primarily school, Y atta district. The study benefits the early childhood pupils since their wellbeing is advocated for in the study. The study also forms a basis for future researchers who may research on a related topic and equip the researcher with knowledge about free primary education in Kenya. Parents will benefit from the study in a way that they will understand the impo1iance of early childhood education and understand that it is the basis for future education. The study recommended that the government should also make early childhood education because parents have decided to pull out their children from early childhood education and yet it is important for the country and primary education. The government should have a policy in place that focus on the impact of free primary education on early childhood education and also put them in practice.

    The Impact of Nursery Education on Academic Performance of Primary One Pupil, a Case Study of Nakawa Division, Kampala District

    This research arose from the popular public concern about the performance of pupils in primary schools. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of nursery education on academic performance of primary pupils. The objectives of the study were to examine the effectiveness of nursery curriculum being implemented in the nursery schools, examine the relationship between nursery education and performance of children in primary one. And assess the significance of nursery education to a child’s intellectual development and finally to come up with possible solutions to curb the problem. Consequently research questions were designed in order to guide the research work. The study a~1opted ~basically descriptive research design which also used qualitative and quantitative methods. Using probability proportion to size (PPS) method, 160 including nursery graduates, play grounds pupils, teachers, head teachers and inspectors. The target population was nursery graduates, play grounds pupils. Two research instruments were designed to collect primary and secondary data on objectives of the study. The study established among others that there was also relationship between nursery education and primary one performance in Nakawa Division. There was significant difference in the academic performance of children who went through nursery education find those who didn’t. Even though some nursery schools were not well equipped and therefore could not teach well their pupils, they as well lack established system. Research revealed that with well-established system, nursery education can be of importance.

    Play and its effects on early childhood education a case study of Usigu division, Bondo district-Kenya.

    The purpose of the study was to investigate the importance of playing on the early childhood education in U sigu Division, Bondo District, Kenya The specific objectives of the study were to determine the profile of the respondents in regards to: age, gender and academic level, to investigate the importance of playing in regards to academic achievements, problem solving, social and egoistic competence confidence building and health development and to identify the hindrance to children's playing the methods used to data collection were questionnaires to the teachers and focus groups discussions with the parents. The finding indicated that playing had positive effect on the performance of early childhood children, playing helps children learn how to solve problems: it also indicated that children who play learn to be confident and it indicated that lack of enough playing materials was the major hindrance to children play. Government should make sure early childhood centers have enough and strong playing materials before they are licensed. The community and parents should be sensitized about the importance of playing so that they also participate in children's playing activities. Schools should make sure they fulfill what is the curriculum by involving children in playing activities.

    Remedial teaching and learners' academic performance in Yatta division, lower Yatta district, Kenya

    This study was intended to establish whether their exist a relationship between attending Holiday tuitions and academic performance of learners, The study was made effective by way of generating objectives from which the questions from the study arose and these guided the researcher throughout the study. In the review of related literature, all other authors' works or contentions in relation to the problem under study were revisited and all this had to correlate with the objectives of the study. In the research methodology, a descriptive design was employed since the whole study was about explaining a scenario or an event. . A sample of 60 respondents which constituted learners, teachers and the administrators was used. Interview guides and questionnaires were employed in the process of data gathering after which data was analyzed and presented in percentages and frequency distribution tables. The findings from the field revealed that holiday tuition has an impact on the academic performance of learners in schools and that learners are conscious of their parental aspirations and this plays an important role in their motivation towards education. A recommendation was made that there was need for using learners-centered teaching approaches, using meaningful activities in their classrooms, promoting conceptual understanding in all subjects.

    Primary schools of Metkei Zone, Keiyo-South District Rift Valley Province-Kenya

    This study was intended to investigate the causes of poor performance of pupils in S.S.T within selected primary schools in Metkel Zone Keiyo-South District Kenya. All secondary sources that is; the articles and all other important citation by other researchers were consulted which helped to give a clear picture of what the whole study: was meant to entail. A descriptive design was adopted since much of what was to be • presented was to be theoretical. .Questionnaires and interview guides acted as the main tools of data collection. The findings revealed that pupils are not given assignments for S.ST subject, lesson plans are not carried out by the teachers and teachers also claim that they are not satisfied with the salary they get. The research study also pointed out that most of the teachers did not have S.ST as their first choice as a career, and they do not use S.ST to communicate with the pupils. It was recommended that learners should be assessed more as S.ST subject is taught daily.
