Abstract
The study sought to investigate the causes of girl child dropout in secondary schools and achieved this by using specific objectives of: To investigate the psycho-social causes or school dropout along girl students: To investigate the leading causes or school dropout among girl children: To investigate the possible solutions lo school drop nut among girl students and e111ployed a case stud) or Madera District. A survey design was e111ployed in the study. The researcher adopted the survey design because it enabled her to collect data over ide area. Respondents to the study were chosen using simple random sampling technique. Teachers. Parents and students were chosen from the schools using simple random sampling technique. Five administrative staff members chosen using purposive sampling technique. The total sample of the study thus 100 respondents. An interview" guide was constructed and used to collect information for students. A questionnaire \\US also designed and used to collect i teachers. The researcher also used observation and guided discussions to get more information. This study showed that students from km-income families were more likely to drop out or school. as a result or poverty. Than were children from middle-income fa111ilies whilst family related problems and obligation such as marriage and house work also to blame for the high dropout rate of girls. Major recommendation included teachers should be trained in gender awareness and serve as role models. Ability those in authority should encourage promotion or female teachers into positions of responsibility. Teachers should also create an enabling environment in school and in classrooms. For example by providing more guidance and counselling and giving girls more responsibility such as appointing them to be protects.
