Abstract
This research study was carried out in Iganga Town Council, Iganga District. It is basically about
the Academic performance and pupils' achievements in P.L.E in Primary Schools of Iganga
Town Council in Iganga District. The objectives included the following;
To establish whether the socio-economic status of parents influenced their children's
performanceinP.L.E.
To explore the school learning context and its influence on the learners performance.
The researcher identified some of the methods regarded as a way of uplifting the academic
performance in primary schools as; discussion, discovery, problem solving among others. The
recommendations were as follows; teachers to teach using real objects and practical methods,
refresher courses for teachers and director studies, guidance and counseling to pupils'
motivation.
The researcher therefore concluded that the poor academic performance of pupils in schools was
projected to the pupils' home background where they face many problems including poor
feeding, domestic violence m some families, abject poverty which usually result into of
scholastic materials.
