Abstract
The general objective of the study is to assess the effectiveness of women participation in
politics towards good governance in Butemba Sub county, kyankwanzi district.
The specific objectives were;
To establish government's commitment towards women participation in the politics, to analyze
the relationship between political involvement and good governance and to discuss public
opinion about women involvement in politics in Butemba Sub county kyankwanzi district.
I used questionnaires, interview guide and observations as a method of data collection to asses
the effectiveness of women involvement in politics of Butemba Sub County Kyankwanzi
District.
The respondents of the research were women who are in politics, Elders and Local leaders with
in the area as they were knowledgeable about women involvement in politics in Butemba Sub
County Kyankwanzi District. The sample size of the respondents was 40.
The researcher asked respondents about the meaning of politics and good governance,
effectiveness of women participation, is government interested in women involvement in
politics.
It was established from the findings of the study that the issues of women involvement in politics
has increased in Uganda and has affected women positively for example by promoting gender
equality that is to say high level of political support, policy development and accountability at all
levels. It has also empowered women, recognizing, appreciating and strengthening the
philosophy of good governance among people in Butemba Sub County Kyankwanzi District.
Different respondents had different responses to the researcher's questionnaires and interviews
led to first findings on women involvement in politics.
