Abstract
The study seeks to assess the impact of NAADS on goat rearing in railways division, lira municipality. Three farmers groups were selected and these include opit kic, nyebibadi and note en teko all from ayago parish, railways division The study was primarily based on the objectives and these include; to examine the goat rearing practices and type of materials community used by NAADS programme, to identify the factors which influence the adoption of goat rearing under NAADS program, to examine the roles of NAADS in improving goat rearing and to design strategies for improving goat rearing in railways division. The study showed tat NAADS programme have great impact on goat rearing in railways division with 81%.Farm income which is one of the NAADS objectives was found to be very unpopular among the farmers groups with 2% ofthe respondents saying so. Cross breeding has played key role in goat rearing under NAADS programme and is one ofthe key strategies designed to improve on the impact of NAADS. However the impact of NAADS cross breeding need to b assessed at farmers level. The study also showed faster rate of breeding of goat was found to be the leading factor influencing the adoption of goat rearing enteiprise in fanners group in railways division. Nevertheless the exotic he goat supplied in each group were found to be very young and could not mate very many she goat in each group. The study further showed that the quality of the farm supplies was standard although the number of the farm inputs supplied was limited to few items it is therefore an indicator that more farm inputs should be included in the lists ofsupplies. Lastly the study suggested that future research should be included to included to include the comparative study of other NAADS enterprises such as poultry and piggery to mention but a few in order to give good credence to the clear capture of the impact of NAADS on goat rearing in railways division, lira municipality lira district
