Abstract
The study was to investigate into the fuctors influencing girl child drop out in
primary school in Banda Sub-county, Namayingo district.
The objectives of the study were:
To establish the causes of girl child drop out, to examine the problems facing girl
children and to identi:(y solution to girl child drop out in schools.
The target population in this study were;- the headteacher, parents, local council
and girl children in upper primary as well as some girl child children who dropped
out of school.
The schools selected were Buyondo, Busiiro, Buchunia, Mayanja, Banda and
Buchumba primary schools.
The researcher employed cross-sectional field correlation study and descriptive
design using both qualitative and quantitative approaches
The researcher used publicity sampling method and more specifically systematic
random sampling and stratified random sampling method.
The research instruments used in this study were interview and observation
Data analysis was done using qualitative means according to the objectives
The findings of the study were that there is a high drop rate of girl children; there
many problems fucing girl children and that all sake holders should actively
participate if girl children are to stay in school.
It was recommended that strict laws be made and enforced by government in order
to protect girl children.
