Abstract
The study was set up to investigate the effects of alcohol consumption on
behavior patterns of the youth in Athi-River town. Fifty respondents were
selected through stratified sampling and their views were analyzed. Data was
collected during the month of May and June 2008 and analysis was done.
Findings indicated that youth in Athi-River town have suffered a great deal
both psychologically and physically due to alcohol consumption.
Youth in the area requested for some assistance or be educated on some
ways so that they can use to generate income because majority of the young
people are unemployed.
They also requested for campaigns and use of mass media to sensitize them
on the effects of excessive drinking of alcohol and also the Kenyan law be
improved to prevent illicit brewing.
The study is divided into five sections chapter one deals with the
background of the study. Chapter two deals with what others have said and
written on alcoholism. Chapter three entails the research designs and
methodology chapter four deals with data analysis.
Lastly, chapter five contains the summary, conclusions and
recommendations of the study.
