Abstract: The current study was carried out among ten private secondary schools found in Ibanda North County, Ibanda district, Uganda. The purpose of the study was to assess the utilisation of instructional materials and how this influences teachers’ teaching-related performance in private secondary schools of Ibanda North County, Ibanda district, Uganda. The teaching-related performance of teachers was measured basing on three elements namely: planning instruction, lesson delivery and teachers’ evaluation of students. The study was guided by the following objectives; to investigate the level of teachers’ utilization of instructional materials in private secondary schools of Ibanda North County, Ibanda district, Uganda; to investigate the level of teachers’ teaching-related performance in private secondary schools of Ibanda North County, Ibanda district, Uganda; as well as to examine the influence of teachers’ utilization of instructional materials on their teaching-related performance in private secondary schools of Ibanda North County, Ibanda district, Uganda. Two hundred students participated in the study as well as seven teachers and three headteachers. The students were given questionnaires to assess their teachers’ utilization of instructional materials and performance, yet the teachers and headteachers were asked oral questions. The ten schools were picked from all the five sub-counties of Ibanda North, namely Ishongororo Trading Centre, Kijongo, Nyamarebe, Ishongororo and Rushango Town Council. The findings were as follows: the level of teachers’ utilization of instructional materials in private secondary schools in Ibanda North County, Ibanda district was high given the grand mean of 2.54; teachers’ teaching-related performance was high given the grand mean of 2.82. This means that the teachers in private secondary schools in Ibanda North county, Ibanda district are good performers. In addition, there is a significant influence of teachers’ utilization of instructional materials on their teaching-related performance in private secondary schools in Ibanda North County, Ibanda district, given the sig value of 0.046, which is less than 0.05 usually used in Social Sciences. The study concluded that instructional materials, such as chalkboard, teachers’ guide, text books, charts, atlas, and real objects are highly utilized by teachers in the private secondary schools in Ibanda North county, Ibanda district. The performance of these teachers in the three aspects of preparing lessons, real classroom teaching, as well as assessing the learners is well done. It is therefore established that the high usage of instructional materials enhances the performance of teachers. The recommendations were that although the study found out that instructional materials are highly utilized, the teachers’ teaching-related performance in private secondary schools in Ibanda North County, Ibanda district is good, the scores indicated that it was not the best. It therefore needs to be made better. Just as learners work to achieve the best, even teachers must do the best. Therefore, school inspectors, head teachers and Directors of Studies should monitor their teachers more to ensure that they utilize learning materials more, effectively and also perform their tasks better for the educational objectives to be achieved.
