Abstract
The purpose of this study was to establish the relationship between team work and employee performance in private organizations at Buziga Islamic Theological Institute. The objectives of the study included the different forms of teamwork used at the institute, the effect of teamwork on employee performance and employees perception towards teamwork in the institute. A sample survey was carried out to seek opinions of respondents on the effect of teamwork on employee performance. Population Sample of 36 respondents was used which included; head teacher, deputy head teacher, director of studies, teaching and non-teaching staff. Simple random sampling techniques were used in order to give equal opportunities to each respondent to respond during the study. Among the findings, problem solving team was the most prominent while virtual teamwork being the least form of teamwork used. The researcher found out that the achievement of common goal was mostly used while ensuring workers' coordination was the least used in the institute. Findings on the effect of teamwork on employees' performance was found that team work ensures commitment of employees, workers' ability to meet their goals, coordination among workers and sharing of ideas among themselves. The employees' perception on teamwork was revealed that it 1s of a great contribution on performance of workers and this was represented by 58%. The researcher found out that problem solving was the most common forms of teamwork and that the team has a great contribution on the coordination of workers with positive perception towards saying that it has a great contribution on workers' performance. For recommendations, the institute should adopt teamwork activities m order to enhance employee performance. Teamwork must be seriously ensured in all organizations.
