dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to investigate factors that contribute to job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction among public primary school teachers. The research design used in this study is simple descriptive survey of the factors that contribute to job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction among public primary school teachers. Descriptive survey was used in this study because the study under investigation involved collecting data to answer questions concerning the current status of the subjects in the study. Hence the study under investigation qualifies to use descriptive research design. The locale of the study was RU/RU division, Thika district, Kenya. The target population was seven hundred and twenty seven (727) teachers in fifty seven (57) schools. Simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample of twenty eight (28) schools. The researcher also used simple random sampling to select a sample of eighty (80) teachers from a target population of seven hundred and twenty seven (727) teachers which is (ll%) percent and is within the range of Gay's recommendation of a minimum 10% sample in descriptive research. The researcher administered questionnaires to three teachers in each school. They were filled and then he collected them. The researcher used questionnaire as a tool of data collection. After the presentation, inte1pretation and analysis of the data, it was found out that, other tools for data collection as observation and interview schedule could also have been used to obtain more i, information not provided in the questionnaire. A statistical analysis of the quantitative aspects (mean, mode, percentages, use of graphs and tables) was done by use of statistical package for social sciences to generate appropriate references. The researcher reviewed related literature of the previous researchers to determine any existing gaps of knowledge. The review of the related literature showed that, there was still a problem of job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction among the public primary school teachers. The research findings reviewed that the greatest factor of dissatisfaction among the public primary school teachers was the salary paid to them by their employer (see table 4.1.2 The researcher made recommendations based on findings of the studyen_US
