| dc.description.abstract | The study examined the effects of punishment on students' discipline in Kampala central urban council. Its objectives were to find out the level of punishments in secondary schools, the level of discipline in secondary schools and to establish how punishments impacts on students' discipline. The study used a descriptive research design to describe issue relating to punishments, discipline; the study population included the students, the teachers and head teachers in the secondary schools. Simple random sampling and purposive sampling procedures were used in the study to obtain a sample of 134 respondents from the study population. Data was collected from both primary and secondary sources using key informant interviews and interview guides. Data was analyzed qualitatively in themes that reflect the study objectives. The study found out punishments were being caused by late coming, disrespect of teachers, misbehaving, absenteeism and pear group influences amongst students. This indiscipline resulted into much suspension, punishing of children and missing of the classes amongst students.
