Abstract
The purpose or this study was to investigate the attitudes of physics teachers towards the teaching- learning process in selected Secondary schools ol' in Nyacheki Division, Gucha, Kenya. The objectives of the study were; to determine the role of teachers' attitudes on the teaching- learning process, to whether teaching attitudes affecting negatively the teaching- learning process. and to investigate whether the teaching competencies affect the teaching- learning process. The methods used \cir data collection were questionnaires to the teachers and interview guide to the headmasters of the schools which participated in the study. Findings indicated that teacher experience, qualification of the teacher and the motivation of the teacher have a direct relationship with the performance ot'students in physics. Recommendations included Government making facilities at school for physics teachers to teach in a conducive environment in order to aid the better performance of physics students in their schools and that government shou Id make sure that it facilitates unqualified teachers to go lor i'urther studies to improve the academic achievement of students in physics.
