dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between child abuse and academic performance of pupils in primary schools and suggest remedies to this problem. The study was guided by three specific objectives and these included; i) to find out the causes of child abuse in Buremba sub county ii) to find out how child abuse affects academic performance of pupils and ii), to establish the relationship between child abuse and academic performance of pupils in primary schools of Buremba sub county. The study employed a descriptive correlation design that used questionnaires methods of data collection and a sample size of 80 respondents was used. The study findings revealed that inadequate protection was the leading cause of child abuse in Buremba Sub County. According to respondents, the protection needs of Buremba sub county s, regardless of whether they remain at home, are on the move, or relocate, remain an urgent concern. The current justice system in Buremba Sub County particularly in ensuring the protection of children against human rights abuses is grossly inadequate. Economic pressures and poverty have increased child abuse in Buremba Sub County. Interviews with the religious leaders confirmed that forced and early child marriages have largely been motivated by lack of economic resources and have led to the increased vulnerability of the girl-child to child abuse.en_US
