dc.description.abstractThe study aimed at establishing the relationship between local government system in Uganda and good governance. It was carried out in Katrini sub-county in Arua District, which is located the West Nile sub region of Uganda. To establish ways through which Local governments in Uganda enhance good governance, to find out challenges that hinder Local governments to foster good governance in Uganda, and to find out possible solutions to the challenges of good governance in local governments of Uganda. A cross-sectional research taking the exploratory and descriptive approach was used, that is, both qualitative and quantitative methods were applied. The mentioned sample size coupled with other methodological considerations like interviews and descriptive research design elicited a multiplicity of findings as regards local government system and its promotion of good governance. Respondents were selected using both random and purposive sampling. It was found that people are aware of what good governance entails and what local governments should do to ensure its applicability. The findings established that local government officials do not observe the principles of good governance that include among others; accountability, justice, transparence, participation in decision making and free and fair elections. The findings hence propelled the researcher to recommend for further research in the same area. The researcher also recommended for central government’s commitment to good governance through by ensuring that there is political will to adhere to the principles of good governance.en_US
