Abstract
In the current National Development Plan 2006 2010, the government is committed to
providing efficient and affordable education. It intends to improve access, quality, relevance and
management of secondary education. To achieve this one on the strategies is to encourage the
effective provision of learning aids for secondary schools. In order to achieve the purpose of this
study, six specific research objectives were addressed to establish the common learning aids in
effective teaching and learning of Islam, to find out the level of adequacy of common learning
aids on Islam, to establish the benefits of adequate learning aids on the perfonnance of ordinary
level of Islam, to establish the effects of inadequacy of learning aids on the performance of
Islam, to find out the challenges facing schools on the provision of Islam Learning aids and to
suggest policies to be adopted for effective provision of learning aids for Islam. The research
looked at the effects of learning aids on the performance of Islam at ordinary level in Malcindye
Division Kampala. The researcher looked at some of the unique challenges that facing Islam
student on their road to academic excellence. The research was carried out in Makindye Division
because of the financial constraints and time limit facing the researcher. The researcher used
questionnaires (closed, open ended and attitude scale) to collect the data from sampled school.
There was an acceptable instrument and because of the wide geographical area that made it
possible for this study. Descriptive survey research was used to get information on the effects of
learning aids on the performance of Islam in Makindye division Secondary Schools. The tables
and figures such as charts and frequency distribution tables were useful in summarizing and~
interpreting the data obtained. The data obtained was subjected to coding to facilitate easy
analysis. Similar responses were categorized and recorded in a table where frequencies were
obtained to be able to calculate percentages. The study was significant because Uganda is a
developing country and the living standards of people are low and so the way forward to be able
to improve the Islam performance of Secondary Schools and to standardize education.
