LeyThis study examined an assessment of compensation scheme to employees and its impacts to their performance in Tanga Regions Commission Office and Tanga District Commission Office. The objective of this study was to ascertain the components of compensation scheme to employees, investigate the impact of poor compensation scheme to employees and to examine the efforts made by the government in improving the compensation scheme for employees. The research instruments used to collect data were questionnaires, interviews and documentation sources such as annual public sector executive compensation disclosure report 2008 from which relevant information was gathered. Data collected were analyzed using qualitative methods where simple statistics like percentage and tabulation were used. Report shows that many employees understood the concept of compensation scheme and few of the do not understand the concept at all, lastly report shows that there are efforts made by the government to improve the compensation scheme for employees such as pay salaries and arrears in time, access employees to bank loans and improve employees working environment, but those efforts are not to a great extent to satisfy employees.
