    The impact of community development initiatives on poverty alleviation in Lubaga Division Kampala, Uganda

    This study was set to establish the contribution of the community development initiatives and poverty alleviation in Lubaga Division Kampala-Uganda, three specific objectives guided this study and these were i) establishing the various community development initiatives used in Lubaga Division Kampala Uganda; ii) examining the measures used in alleviation of poverty in Lubaga Division Kampala Uganda and (iii); establishing the effect of community development initiatives on poverty reduction in Lubaga Division Kampala Uganda. This research employed descriptive correlation design to describe the relationship between community development initiatives and poverty reduction in Lubaga Division Kampala Uganda. The study used a population of 210 and a sample size of 138. Questionnaires were used for reaching respondents who were randomly selected to be part of the study and the data collected was organized and analyzed to generate information which came from the research. The findings revealed the following: community development initiatives were rated satisfactory (overall mean~2.87), the findings still revealed that among these measures include employment creation, access to health services and literacy improvements, poverty alleviation was rated unsatisfactory (overall mean~ 2.40), the findings of this study proved a positive significant correlation between community development initiatives and poverty alleviation in Lubaga Division Kampala Uganda (r=.364; Sig=0.000). The researcher concluded that; community development initiatives are favorable to the community members due to their contributions during poverty alleviation in Lubaga Division Kampala Uganda, poverty alleviation measures have not adequately helped the communities in Lubaga Division Kampala Uganda to raise and enable the poor to create wealth for themselves as a means of ending poverty, and lastly improvement in community development initiatives also increases the measures used in poverty alleviation.
