    The role of formal education in t e moral upbringing of students in secondary schools in Wakiso District of Uganda

    The study examined the contribution of formal education to the Moral upbringing of secondary school students in Wakiso District. The study was guided by three objectives To establish how secondary school administration contributes o moral upbringing of students. To establish how secondary school curriculum and instruction contribute to moral upbringing of students, To establish how secondary school-hidden curriculum contribute to moral upbringing ofstudents The study used descriptive survey deign with cross sectional survey with both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data was collected using questionnaires and interview guides. It was collected from students, teachers, head teachers and community members, it was analyzed using Chi square test, frequency counts and percentages and content analysis for data obtained from unstructured interviews. The study established and concluded that secondary school administration contributes to moral upbringing of student, classroom content and instruction and hidden curriculum have moral attributes to the students. The study recommended among other that schools administration and staff should be exemplary before the students. Classroom instruction should bring out moral ingredients and school administration should monitor the hidden curriculum. The researcher suggested the following areas for the research. 1. The role ofC.R.E. in the moral upbringing of students in secondary schools. 2. The influence home background in the moral formation and development of students.
