    The effects of teaching methods on academic performance in secondary schools of Kamnorok zone Barwessa division in Kenya

    The study involved both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection in which questionnaires, interview guides and focus group discussions were used to collect the data from the respondents The objective of the Study is to investigate the effects of teaching methods on academic performance in secondary schools of Kamnorok Zone Barwessa Division in Kenya The first objective of the study was to determine the relationship between visual aids and performance of secondary school students. The study revealed that visual aids are important for secondary school students because they help them understand what students what they are being taught. Using chats to map students can also be used as a mean of providing positive rain forcemeat for appropriate, on task behavior. The second objective was to determine the relationship between motivation and performance of secondary school students. The respondents agreed that motivation was important for children especially with mild retardation to understand what they are taught. Teachers play a role in motivating pupils. The teachers should have a desirable and attain \able goal, teaching should be from known to unknown teachers should also have a happy and motional relationship with the students and encourage active participation of learners, competition and also praise and reward those who are progressing and encourage the slow learners. The third objective was to determine the relationship between demonstration and performance of secondary school students. The respondents agreed that demonstrating was an effective method to teach children in school The fourth objective was to determine the relationship between teacher's quality and performance of secondary school students. The respondents agree that children need teachers who are qualified and those who understand their needs. The positive association between teachers training variables and standard learning The respondents were asked whether students need teachers who use effective methods to teach them and below were their response 96.6% agreed that secondary, 1.6 of the respondents disagreed and said not all effective methods can lead to a good student's performance and 1.6% of the respondents were not sure of the effective methods of teaching secondary schools
