    Assessment of the nutritional status of children under five years of age in Kitale District Hospital Transnzoia County, Kenya

    Malnutrition continues to affect the large number of children under the age of five, particularly in developing countries. A cross sectional study was carried out in Kitale district Hospital in Transzoia County in august 2013. The study’s main objective was assessment of nutritional status of children under five years of age in Kitale District Hospital. A total of 100 respondents were interviewed. A total of 150 questionnaires were issued. Data was analyzed manually using excel and calculators. The analyzed data was presented in tables and figures. The researcher concluded that the major causes of malnutrition included poverty, lack of knowledge on malnutrition, early weaning of the child, poor methods of food preparation, cultural practices like not using family planning and low socio-economic class.
