    Effects of genocide on Rwandan tourism development: a case of ORTPN

    The research was conducted in Rwandese de Tourisme et des Par/cs Nationaux which is found in the Rwandan capital-Kigali. The research topic was on the effects of Rwandan genocide on the development of tourism industry in Rwanda. The case study of the research was in Rwandese de Tourisme et des Pares Nationaux (ORTPN). The total percentage of the respondents was 60;- there were 10 Political leaders, 10 RTB officials, 10 tourists and 30 community members were involved in the study. The research was guided by the research questions of study. The first question sought to find out the effects of the 1994 civil war on the tourism industry in Rwanda. The study findings reveled that; decrease in national GDP, destruction of wildlife habitants, destruction, of forests, decline in number of tourist, and loss of wildlife. The second research question sought to find out the causes of 1994 Rwandan genocide. The findings of the study revealed that; ethic discrimination, Hutu dominance of leadership, assassination of the president, poor control of the army, and exploitation of minority groups were the answers given by the respondents. The third research question sought to find out the steps which should be taken to revive Rwanda's tourism glory. The findings revealed that; Infrastructure development, political stability, reduction of tourist charges, marketing of the industry and training of tourism staff were the answers given by the respondents. Conclusions and recommendations were then made after analyzing and interpreting data.
