Secure asset management information system for micro-finance institution case study: Fuccas Uganda
(Kampala International University, College of Computing and Information Technology, 2011-05) Okumu, Douglas; Docho Mwaka, Christopher
As outlined throughout the report, Uganda has a well established and vibrant microfinance industry. However, some challenges remain to be un tackled, including: managing its assets in order to reaching out to rural areas in a sustainable manner; strengthening community based organizations so that they can become a viable option to reach poorer and more remote clients; developing new products more responsive to the needs of different client groups, including savings services, payment systems, emergency loans, housing loan products, investment loans, insurance products, agricultural loans, leasing, etc.; preparing MFIs for the transformation from NGOs to licensed microfinance providers; exploring and promoting commercial funding sources and reducing subsidization by donors; developing a stronger MFI network to enable effective coordination of the industry. Therefore, developing a secure asset management information system to make MFIs in Uganda achieve their objective through information management will be an added advantage to enable them reach to the community. Therefore, this project report is limited to designing a systems that will Maintain asset records, capture of asset that flow within the organization, efficient disbursement of assets within and outside the institution, tracking of assets disbursement, generate such internal asset reporting statements that will facilitate an understanding of the financial position of the organization, monitoring operational unit’s performance and asset management schemes, advise of micro and MSE business owners in their operations.
