- ItemCash management and profitability in small and medium enterprises in Kampala Uganda(Kampala International University, School of Business and Management, 2011-12) Abdirizak, Ahmed; FarahThe purpose of the study was to establish the relationship between cash management and profitability and in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The study was conducted in Mukono leisure gardens The objectives of the study were to find out examine the various cash management policies used in small and medium enterprises (SMEs), factors influencing their profitability and to establish the relationship between cash management and profitability in small and medium enterprises. The methodology used included descriptive research design, interview and questionnaires as primary source of data and literature of various scholars as secondary source of data. The data was presented, interpreted and analyzed using tables and percentages. From the findings cash management was identified as a key to success of the organisation as seen from the study. This is because cash management provides a basis for profitability and survival of the organisation in the short and long run. It was therefore noted by different scholars that SMEs should adopt cash management policies to stream line their cash management in order to be profitable. Basing on the survey, majority of the respondents also agreed that it is vital for the organisation to adopt cash management polices that can enable it manage it cash for example working capital management cash budgeting, cash planning and Forecasting and investing the surplus· :;ash to other profitable venture. This enable the organisation to stream line it& cash and avoid cash problems. It was concluded that cash management is strongly con·elated to influence profitability of the an organisation this is because when different cash management policies and tools are used administered collectively in relation to other factors that influence profitability of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) then they will be able the to succeed and remain profitable. It was recommended that the organisation revisit its cash management policies and streamline them with the organisation goals and also adopt more the different cash management policies that will enable it improve its profitability levels and net worth.
- ItemCivil war and Unemployment in Mogadishu Somalia(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2010-12) Rabiile, Mohamud; FarahThe study investigated Civil war and the issues of unemployment in Mogadishu Somalia.The objectives of the study were to find out the strategies which the Somali Government used to establish employment opportunities.The research design was descriptive correlation quantitative design and existing literature was used. Data was collected from primary and secondary instrument of the research was questionnaire, to collect primary data from sample size of 171 respondents out of population of 300 respondents. Cross tabulation(frequencies and percentages), mean and correlation analysis using persons’ coefficient values was used to analysis data. The study concludes that there is significant relationship between civil war and unemployment in Mogadishu Somalia. And it recommended the following central government should work hand in offer with local leaders, elders, world lords and citizens to build good governance and stop the civil war. The central government should work with local community to reactivate local people to make investments and create their own business. Also Ngo’s should establish projects that all unemployed people can benefit from that.

- ItemSchool management practices and students ‘academic performance in selected private Secondary Schools in Bosaso, Puntland Somalia(Kampala International University, College of Education, Open and Distance Learning, 2011-03) Abdirahman, Said; FarahThe study investigated the relationship between school management practices and student’s academic performance in selected private secondary schools in Bosaso District, Puntland Somalia. The study objectives included; determining the profile of the respondents, the relationship between teacher motivation and student’s academic performance, the relationship between student’s motivation and student’s academic performance, the extent to which school education quality control has influenced student’s academic performance.The study employed a cross-sectional correlation research design using mainly a quantitative approach on a sample of 153 subjects selected from three private secondary schools of Hamdan secondary school, Najahsecondary School and Shafi’e secondary School in Bosaso District consisting of head teacher, teachers, and students. Data was collected using a questionnaire scored on five point likert scale. Data collected was processed using SPSS and was analyzed using frequency, percentages, graphs, correlation and regression analyses. The study found that teacher motivation; student’s motivation and education quality control had a significant relationship with student’s academic performance. The study concluded that teacher motivation, student’s motivation and education quality control are prerequisites for student’s performance. The study recommended that to achieve good student’s academic performance in secondary education, the government of Puntland, private VII school administrators, teachers, NGOs and other stakeholder should ensure that there is effective teacher and student’s motivation, and education quality control. Other studies need to be carried out to examine the extent to which learning environmental has influenced student’s performance.
