    HIV/ AIDS and dropout rates of pupils of selected primary schools in Muranga district, Kenya

    The study was about the effect of HIV/ AIDS on dropout rates of selected primary school in Muranga district, Kenya. The major respondents were parents, orphans, class teachers and head teachers of the selected primary schools. Questionnaires were issued to ten parents from each school selected at random. Schedules were issued to class teachers through the head teachers. Head teachers and known orphans were interviewed for more information. The questionnaires, schedule and interviews were primarily based on the objective of the study. The major objective was to determine the influence of HIV/ AIDS orphans on dropout rates. Major findings show that despite the fact that there are many orphans dropout rates have significantly increased due to HIV/AIDS. Recommendations made from the study were strengthened support mechanism, allocating funds to the extended families and more counseling services. From the study it can be concluded that HIV/AIDS has not led to a significant increase in dropout rates of boys and girls in Muranga district.
