The use of ict and economic welfare in Uganda, a case study of Makindye Division
(Kampala International University, College of Economics and Management, 2018-10) Kakungu, Leah
There have been various efforts by the government of Uganda to improve on the level of ICT use and economic welfare. However the level of KT use and Economic welfare is still very low due to poor implementation of these policies. Its for this reason that the main aim of this study was to determine the use of ICT and Economic welfare in Uganda and the other objective was to establish a relationship between ICT use and Economic Welfare. A cross sectional survey that involved the use of questionnaires with close ended questions was used to collect data on I~T use and Economic welfare from 100 respondents in Makindye division, Kampala. Data analysis was carried out using MS Excel, SPSS and STATA statistical software packages. The results indicated that there is a positive significant relationship between ICT use and Economic Welfare. The highest number of respondents agreed that their Economic welfare improved as a result of using computers while few respondents still cannot afford ICT services and have low welfare. The study also indicated that this positive. relationship between ICT and Economic welfare can only be achieved when intervening factors like reduction in the level of poverty, improvement in education levels, cultural diversification and favorable government policies can help improve the level of ICT use and Economic welfare in Uganda.
