    The influence of prolonged Drought on Food Security in Uganda. A case study of Lotome Sub County, Napak District.

    The study focused on the effect of prolonged drought in Napak district in North-eastern Uganda. It was noted that the cause of droughts is easily understood, but hard to prevent. Depending on the location, crop failures, famine, high food prices, and deaths can occur. One of the scariest parts of a drought is the onset time. The findings noted that the measures of prolonged drought was; It was noted that prolonged drought has several impact on community welfare; Drought can have serious health, social, economic and political impacts with far-reaching consequences, the most important steps in lessening the effects of drought though are soil and water conservation. However, extensive monitoring of precipitation and water usage are the best way to prepare for a drought, inform the public on the problem, and implement conservation strategies in Napak district. Adding that drought monitoring and forecasting, Over 33% of the research findings show that drought monitoring and forecasting in Lotome. It was concluded that drought and desertification continue to threaten the livelihoods of millions of people in Napak district increasingly maldng them unable to edge out of poverty. As such desertification and drought are at the heart of development challenges in Napak district and merit urgent attention in policies and actions at national, regional and global level.
