- ItemThe impact of head teachers' supervision on staff performance in primary schools in Kwapa Sub-County Tororo District(Kampala International University.College of Education, 2017-11) Lucy, AkurutThe objective of this study was to find out whether primary headteachers carry out instructional supervision in their schools in Kwapa Sub-County, Tororo District. The study targeted the headteachers and the classroom teachers since they are key players in the teaching and learning situation. The study involved three primary headteachers and twenty seven primary teachers. Three null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study namely: Headteachers do not carry out instructional supervision. The methods used in instructional supervision will not affect the teaching and learning process. Thirdly headteachers will be not be able to identify training needs of teachers. Data was collected using three types of instruments namely: questionnaires. Interview and observation. These were analyzed using percentages and tables. The findings revealed that instructional supervision was not carried out in the selected primary schools by headteachers. It was concluded that headteachers in Kwapa Sub-County are not carry out their role of instructional supervisions. The method headteachers used in carrying out instructional supervision were inadequate. There was lack of in service training in form of school based refresher course. There were counseling services give to teachers after supervision. In the light of these findings, recommendations for improvement and further course of action by appropriate authorities were made.
