- ItemFactors contributing to work appreciation among secondary school teachers a case study Of Mathioya Division,Murang’a District, Kenya.(Kampala International University, College of Education, Open and Distance Learning, 2008-11) Wahome, Samuel; M.This study is based on Broom’s expectancy theory. Expectancy theory concerns choice of behaviors that can lead to desired rewards . The theory postulates that individuals will evaluate various strategies of behaviour and then choose the behavior that they belief will lead too those work related outcomes or rewards that they value like pay increase, promotion or recognition. If the individual believes that hard work will lead to desired pay, he will work hard for it. Misleel and Ugawa ( 1988) says that this theory rests on the consumption that motivation is a coonskins process in which decisions lawfully were related to psychological events that occur with behaviour and the forces in the individual and the environment combines to determine behaviour. Vroom ( 1964) explained that expectancy theory involves three main variables: instrumentality valence and expectancy that are derived from the relationship among efforts ,performance ,outcomes and rewards .( Stilagyi( 1981) Explains expectancy as the perceived relationship between efforts and performance . For example, the teacher may not be IOO% certain that success of his / her students in an examination will be IOO% since this depends on a number of factors beyond his / her control in an examination. Instrumentality on the other hand, is the probability that performance will lead to desired rewards. It represents the belief by the employee that a reward will be received once the task has been accomplished. Valence has been defied as the employee’s performance for a particular outcome or reward, which can be either intrinsic or extrinsic valence. Teachers expect such outcomes as pay increase, promotion and recognition by superiors to have positive valence. Such outcomes as reprimands, job pressures, stress and interpersonal conflicts may have negative valences. The valence that workers attach to outcomes may vary with age and type of work.

- ItemMonitoring and evaluation system as a tool for efficient and effective performance of government projects in Rwanda(Kampala International University, College of Economics and Management, 2011-10) Kamana, Augustine; M.The purpose of this research was to assess the impact of Monitoring &Evaluation system towards efficient and effective performance of government projects in Rwanda. The specific objective of the research was to determine the profile of the respondents, the level of M &E system in regards to Efficient and Effective Performance of government Projects in Rwanda, level of Efficient and Effective Performance of government Projects in Rwanda and establish the significant relationship between M&E system and the level of Efficient and Effective Performance of government projects in Rwanda The research followed a descriptive correlation survey design. Primary data was collected using self administered questionnaires issued to the respondents. Data was collected using a sample size of 172 from a population of 300. Data analysis was done with the help of SPSS purposely to measure the relationship between M&E system and Efficient and Effective performance of government Projects in Rwanda The researcher used purposive sampling techniques to select the respondents in the Cepex and Ministry of infrastructure and Simple Random sampling in Minicofin The research finding reveals that the dependent variable which is R2 variations depends on Independent variable at the level of 0.293 or 29.2%. and at the significance level of 0.000 less than 0.005 which is maximum, this denotes a very crucial significant relationship between independent and dependent variables. The r value is at 0.541, significance at 0.000 indicating a significant correlation between M&E system and Efficient and Effective Performance of government projects in Rwanda. This declares a significant relationship between the two variables and consequently the null hypothesis rejected.Project managers, officers and program managers are recommended to plan and executed their day today activities bearing in minds the advises or recommendation for warded by M&E staff in M&E reports in order to achieve their preset objective
- ItemPerceptions of parents on gender differences in mathematics in secondary schools in Arua Municipality, Arua District, Uganda.(Kampala International University, College of Education, Open and Distance Learning, 2003-11) Mundu, Mustafa; M.Over the past two decades, women limited participation in science, technology and mathematics (SMT) courses in tertiary institutions have been a cause for a concern in Uganda. Women today, constitute over half of the world population. This research was designed to investigate the present situation of female participation in SMT in Arua Municipality, visa-a vis the effects of this limited participation on national development. Data for the study were obtained from a survey conducted in two Local Government Di\ ision Areas of Oil Rivcr and Ama Hill divisions, the west Nile region head quarters. Questionnaires, guided inte~iews and focus group discussions were among the methods used in soliciting for the data from the respondents. A total of 100 students, 40 parents and 50 teachers were successfully interviewed. The result obtained confirms the earlier assertion that female are underrepresented in SMT. It also showed that more than 70% of the parents, 66% of teachers and 76% of students accepted that there was gender disparity in SMT;socialization processes inculcated gender biases through the different roles and responsibilities assigned to girls and boys. A package of communication strategies are therefore recommended to encourage teachers and researchers to recognize prejudicial practices which may still disadvantage girls particularly within classrooms, even where policy and statistics suggest that equality has been achieved. Also, career guidance teachers should play a major role in showing girls how to choose subjects combination in high school which suits their aptitudes and, family members should encourage girls to take up scientific programs.
