    Challenges of teaching learners with visual impairment in Kiswahill in Kitundu zone, Mbooni West District

    The purpose of the study was to find out the challenges faced by teachers teaching learners with visual impairment in Kiswahili in Kitundu zone of Mbooni west district. At the same time the researcher came up with the intervention measures to support teachers teaching learners with visual impairment in Kiswahili language in Kitundu zone of Mbooni West district and the whole country at large. The study was approached both qualitatively and quantitatively. The survey design was adopted for this study. The target population for the study was teachers within Kitundu zone of Mbooni district. Out of the population the sample was eight teachers, two from each of the four units in the zone. The procedure used for the sample was purposive from non probability sampling. Only the eight teachers had the probability of filling in the questionnaires used for the study. The instrument used for collecting data was the questionnaire which had both open and close ended questions. The study revealed that majority of the teachers who teach Kiswahili in the zone were in age category 41 and above, all the teachers were trained and are spread in the following grades pi, ATSIV, ATSI and diploma. Teaching and learning resources were irregularly used in teaching Kiswahili. Learners with specific learning difficulties were not fully involved in the lesson. The researcher therefore recommended that teachers should improve their methods of teaching Kiswahili by making it practical through using teaching and learning materials regularly and involving all learners in the lesson. The government to employ more teachers to ease the workload.
