    Civil society organizations’ activities on women political empowerment: a case study of Tanzania Women’s Network (TWONET)

    This study was examining the effect of civil society organization’s activities on women political empowerment using a case study of Tanzania Women’s Network. The specific objectives of the study were: to assess the factors that affect women’s empowerment in Tanzania, to assess the activities done by CSOs that have improved women’s capacities to make strategic choices in life, thirdly, to examine the activities of CSOs that have enabled women to access resources and then to examine the challenges faced by CSOs during the women emancipation process in Tanzania. The study used a cross sectional case study design employing both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection. A case study design was used because it was not possible to study all CSOs in Tanzania within a short time and yet there was need to obtain detailed contextual analysis. In conclusion, Poverty is the number one factor that hinders women political empowerment in Tanzania. Capacity building activities are among the frontline activities done by CSOs to improve women political empowerment in Tanzania. Advocacy and lobbying are the activities used by CSOs in Tanzania to enable them have access to resources, The research recommends that there is a need thus, for CSOs to undertake research and come up with a report on what major factors that indeed hinder their empowerment politically. This research should endeavor to seek views from all stakeholders in this program. There is need for CSOs to go beyond usual activities of lobbying, capacity building, sensitization and many more to develop skills and confidence in women that can allow them to stand up for their political causes. There is a need still for CSOs in Tanzania to seek for activities that are women friendly to see that they can be enabled to have access to resources even if they are guided or not. Lastly, there is need for increased women sensitization, education and awareness creation as they can only be the measures for women ignorance which was reported to be high among women in Tanzania,
