    Debt in the financial sector - an examination of law and practice in Uganda: a case study of Commercial Banks in Kampala Central Division

    This paper is an exploratory study which sought analysis of the existing gaps in the law governing debts in banks in Uganda. The paper examined the debt related issues at both national and international levels and its regulation to identify the weaknesses in order to provide ways of amendment that can be fit into the existing laws for the betterment of debt control. The study relied on qualitative design to collect and analyze data which was collected from five banks that is; Stanbic, Baroda, CERUDEB, Tropical and DFCU banks m Kampala Central Division. It was also based on secondary data for verification of information collected from Kampala International University and Makerere University I .aw Development Center. The findings are presented under the following themes: " Effectiveness of law governing debts and how has it supported the position of the debtor and creditor Circumstances that lead to borrowing from financial institutions Circumstances that to defaulting and has it affected the position of the bank as \Veil as that of the debtor Solutions to curb debt defaulting level
