    Academic Performance of Pupils of Katala Primary School in Bugiri District, Uganda
    (Kampala International University, bachelor's degree in primary education, 2007-11) Mathias Kapuuli, Basalirwa
    Objectives: This study determined the academic performance of pupils of Katala Primary School in Bugiri District, Uganda. Specifically, this study determined the profile of pupils as to age, gender and academic level. It determined the level of academic performance and determined if there is a significant difference in the level of academic performance between male and female pupils. Design: This study employed the descriptive survey method of investigation. Environment: This study was conducted in one of the schools found in Buwunga sub-county, Bukooli County, Bugiri district in Eastern Uganda, preferably Katala primary school. Katala primary school is located 2km off Bugiri, Iganga in a rural setting. Respondents: This study involved 18 pupils wherein 6 pupils from primary five (PS), 6 pupils from primary six (P6) and 6 pupils from primary seven (P7). Instrument: This study utilized a researcher devised instrument which was a record sheet that contained the profile of pupils as to age, gender, academic level and level of academic performance. Data Collection Procedures: The frequencies and percentages were used to determine the profile of pupils and level of academic performance. The paired or related t-test was used to test for significant difference in the level of academic performance between male and female pupils. findings: This study revealed the following: the mean age of the pupils was 13.44; the level of academic performance was good (mean = 53.22); it was evident that there is no significant difference in the level of academic performance between male and female pupils Conclusion: Based on the findings, it was concluded that the academic performance of pupils was rated as good.
