(Kampala International University, College of Computing and Information Technology, 2009-06) Saado, Ahmed Maramed; Mchumira, Zainab
The project embarks on designing a Management Information System for Petrol Stations. Since institutions are getting computerized so as to have efficiency, easy processing of data and ensuring that data in the database is complete, accurate without redundancy. Hence saving time and reduction of errors, data independency, restricting an authorized access to database, maintain data integrity and accuracy, provide security and persistent storage. The research methodology was based on interview, observation and consultation of various documents such as, file records and manual calculation process. Observation looked out for, operation inefficiency, different rules and procedures used, files used, file storage and accessibility, Interruptions in the normal workflow, Information architecture and infrastructure. We formulated some future improvements based on empirical data and the information system demands, obtained during the project design. We also recommend the incorporation of various features (languages) that enable the system effectively cut across various cultures thus providing a solution to the globalization challenge.
