- ItemThe role of uplift in rural community transformation a case of Nebbi District, Uganda(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and social sciences., 2008) Mehari Woldu, NahidThe focus of the study was the role of UPLIFT in rural community transformation taking Nebbi district as a case study area and the problems in achieving the transformation of the people. The purpose of the study was to analyze the impact of gender literacy in rural communities in Nebbi district. Literatures was reviewed in accordance with the specific objectives that are analyze the contribution made by uplift towards community transformation in Nebbi District, Examine challenges faced by UPLIFT and solutions to the challenges. A Case study design was adopted which helped in investigation on the complex factors that contribute to the individuality of a social unit, the reason for choosing this design is because it studies a specific unit and study it deeply and thoroughly. Qualitative research approach and quantitative research approaches were used to obtain the data that can be measured in numerical figures. The finding of the study indicated that almost all of UPLIFT participants arc women and the participation of men is very low, both men and women have problems in attending the programs but the women take the program more seriously and attend it with joy. The study concludes that UPLIFT uses easy and very practical methods of teaching, supplies a relevant educational material the mentors are visited and get a refresher courses monthly. The study recommends that the Organization should work hand in hand with the other NGO’s that could help in some financial support specially help in making boreholes, English classes to start for the participants that have fmished the local language and the organization should try to practice gender balanced literacy activities.
