    Local revenue performance and the quality of social services delivery in Mazinga Sub County, Kalangala District Local Government

    This study was set out to examine th,J :;ffc~·t of l;:::c2.l revenue performance and the quality of social services delivery in Mazing.a ~)?b-county. This was guided by the following objectives: to examine the level of loc~il revenu~ performance; to assess the quality of social service delivery and to determine· the n::frtio:1ship between the changes in the two variables or conditions in Mazings St:b-c~mnty. The empirical literature was reviewed under th(;mes that reflect specific variables in the objectives above. The study adopkd tbe descrii,tive and correlational research design. The target population of this study inc!~1dcd the adult residents, local revenue managers and health and education service provide:s. The residents were represented in the study by the major levy payer and traceablt: m:t-rs, besi<.;..:·s the local revenue managers and service providers as the accessible populatioa [:on1. li i..; frurn t'.1cse that the sample population was selected using the purposive and stratifi~d rnmt0rn sampling strategies. The questionnaire survey and interview methods were used for c-0llection of data, which was presented, analyzed and interpreted quantitatively asing methods involving descriptive and inferential statistics. The main findings of the study show th;.1t kc~:! ._rs;;venue performance in Mazinga Subcounty is less efficient with a lot to improve on and that the quality of social service delivery in the sub county is fairly satisfoctot·y since not all the health and education needs the local community are appropriately 3ddressed. Health and primary education were the social services of study.Th::: faJdi1Jgs ~d?o reveal that the level of local revenue performance significantly influenc.;s the (p.1a!ily of public health and primary education service delivery in the sub-county. It was concluded that local revenue in Mazinga Sub-county would have more significantly contributed to and enhancf..:d qu,t!;t:,' social service delivery not only for health and primary education but also for olhtf public.: social services, if the local tax base was exhausted and well managed. Th11:, 1 Lh,; swdy recommends for efficacy in local revenue management and sufficient utilisation of the revenue for sufficient, competent, balanced, consistent and improved social service delivery.
