    Electronic media and promotion of girl child education in Uganda: a case study of Bushenyj District

    The research on “electronic media and promotion of girl child education” was conducted in Bushenyi district. The research was guided by research objectives which involved; finding out how the electronic media promotes girl child education, finding out the factors that affect girl child education in Bushenyi district, and finding out the importance of educating a girl child on the society. The first research question sought to find out the how the electronic media promotes girl child education in Bushenyi district, the findings revealed that organizing talk-shows, reporting on abuse of girl child’s, sensitizing the public on need for girl child education rights, and networking with NGOs were the respondents given by the respondents. The second research question sought to find out the factors that affect girl child education in Bushenyi district, the findings revealed poverty, early marriage, chronic Sickness, long distance of school, and lengthy learning hours were the answers- given by the respondents. The third research question sought to find out the importance of educating a girl child on the society, the findings reveal that, elimination of illiteracy, increase in skilled labor, supplement on economic development, and equal representation were the answers given by the respondents. The study concludecl that there is still effort needed to promote girl education in Bushenyi district and researcher recommended compulsory education, abolition corporal punishments, building of more schools among others in a bid to promote girl child education in Bushenyi district.
