- ItemInstitutional Factors and Girls Child Retention: A Case Study of Selected Secondary Schools in Kambuga Sub County Rukungiri District, Western Uganda(Kampala International University, school of Arts with education, 2017-02) Muhumuza, JoshuaThis qualitative and quantitative study investigated factors responsible for dropout of girls from secondary school in Kambuga sub-county Rukungiri District. The study was based on three objectives that are to find out how learning environment, teachers attitudes and effect of distance affects girls retention in secondary schools, The study employed cross-sectional survey with 50 respondents selected by purpose sampling and systematic sampling. The schools were randomly selected from others and respondents were randomly selected. Informants were purposely selected from Head Teachers, Teachers and students. Qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection were used, data were corded and entered using EPI-DATA and exported to SPSS for analysis. - ., About 6O% of Respondents were female and 4O% respondents’ male. In conclusion there for, the primary causes of girl child ,dropout from secondary schools~ were r~any and these include cultural factors family back ground learning environment teachers negative attitudes long distances from home to school etc. The study there for recommends that stake holders should work hard to enlighten the importance of girl child education to the parents. to provide school fees, scholastic materials and food to their girls child to stay in school and school stake holders should provide conducive learning environment that favors girls child life style.
