    Quality and productivity of teachers in selected public secondary schools in Matinyani Division Kitui District, Kenya

    The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between teacher quality and learners performance in different subjects in KCSE (Kenya Certificateof Secondary Education) in the selected secondary schools of, Matinyani DivisionKitui District, Kenya. The study was guided by the following objectives; finding out the profile of the respondents, level of teacher quality, level of teacherProductivity and finding out the relationship between teacher quality and teacher productivity. The methods used for data collection were questionnaires to the teachers of the schools which participated in the study. Findings indicated that there is a significant effect of teacher quality on students’ performance, thus, teacher experience, qualification of the teacher and the motivation of the teacher have a direct relationship with the performance of students in different subjects. Recommendations included Government making facilities at school for different subjects teachers to teach in a conducive environment in order to aid the better performance of different subjects students in their schools and that government should make sure that it facilitates unqualified teachers to go for further studies to improve the academic achievement of students in different subjects
