- ItemImpact of tribal conflicts on academic performance: Karamojong attacks on Ngariam parish schools, Katakwi district-Kenya(Kampala International University, College of Education, Open and Distance Learning, 2009-12) Muthoni Njoka, EuniceThis study was intended to investigate Karamojong attacks and school drop out in the selected primary schools of Ngariam parish- Katakwi district. Quantitative and qualitative data was used to analyze and interpret the results of the study. Purposive sampling was used in the study to select the respondents. Frequency courts, relative frequency, tables, graphs were used to analyze data. The finding indicate that Karamojong have changed their mode (methods) of attacks from traditional use of spears and shields to the use of automatic guns. The major actors in Karamojong attacks are Karamojong cultural leaders, Karamojong war lords and those in the Bush. Karamojong attacks have affected schools and learners, caused death, hunger and displacement in the selected primary schools of Ngarirun parish. A researcher concluded that though Karamojong attacks have affected selected primary schools of Ngruirun parish, government has intensified forceful disarmament of Karamojong and so everybody should be encouraged in peace initiative for the future of Ngariam parish- Katakwi district.
