Causes of political instability in northern Uganda: A case study of Gulu district
(College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2010-08) Nakawesi, Editor
The study was on the cause of political instability in Northern Uganda. Gulu district was used as a case study. The major reason for carrying out the study were to determine the factors hindering political stability in Gulu district, to identify the effects of political instability in the development of Gulu district and to examine the strategies government can use to ensure peace and stability in Gulu district. The study employed both qualitative and quantitative method. These enabled the researcher to collect primary data from the respondents. The respondents came from Gulu district leaders, schools, non-government offices, NGO’s, Central government, local population of Gulu district as well as rebels and the U.P.D.F. The research revealed that peace has been restored at large extent in Gulu district. This has been due to government over deployment of more soldiers in Gulu district so as to security of the place. Others are construction of roads, hospital, schools as well as resumption of businesses for commercial purposes. The researcher recommended that government of Uganda should stop the acts of negligence on the Acholi people especially of Gulu district. This is so because these people are entitled to be protected by the government of Uganda because they are Ugandan’s regardless of the tribe and region they come from.
