    The impact of community radio on freedom of speech in Uganda

    The study sought to establish the Impact of Community Radio• on Freedom of Speech in Uganda. The media in Uganda has undergone radical transformation from the past situation where successive governments right from colonialism carried on a mentality that the media was only significant to government. The state run media largely in existence at the time tended towards fragmented, individualistic and elitist reporting which left a larger percentage of the population with no effective media communication and hence little input into the development process of Uganda. The study was driven by three objectives: To find out ways how community radios have promoted freedom of speech in Uganda, to evaluate the challenges faced by community radio in promoting freedom of speech in Uganda and to find out the rate at which freedom of speech has been violated in Uganda To achieve these objectives the researcher sampled 30 respondents from CBS radio station. The study utilized qualitative research methods, two data collection instruments were used: Structured questionnaire and Structured interviews. The collected data was presented in tabular and figurative forms and analyzed statistically to decipher findings.
