- ItemFactors predisposing health workers to nosocomial infections at Kampala International University Teaching Hospital(Kampala International University, School of Health Sciences, 2014-10) Namatovu, IreneThe aim of this study was to investigate the factors predisposing health workers to nosocomial infections at Kampala International University Teaching Hospital (KIUTH). This was a descriptive cross sectional study conducted among health workers at KIUTH. A total of 90 respondents were interviewed using questionnaires by random sampling. The study found out that the most common nosocomial infections (Nis) among the health care workers were Respiratory Tract Infections (RTIs) with (65.5%), the greatest risk factor for acquiring a nosocomial infection was insufficient equipment (43.3%), 86.6% of the respondents used personal protective equipment always, 48.9% of the respondents found hand hygiene as the infection control practice easiest to use, 90% of the respondents were motivated by personal safety and 50% did not comply with infection control measures due to inadequate supplies. It was concluded that the health care workers at KIUTH were aware of the aspects concerning NIs. The most common occupational infection occurring among HCWs were RTIs, specifically TB and the most common risk factor for acquiring a nosocomial infection is insufficient equipment and lack of infection control guidelines. The study then recommended that health care workers at the hospital be provided with adequate and relevant personal protective equipment such as respirators and hand hygiene facilities, ongoing education and training of HCWs on task-specific needs for safety integrated with implementation of infection control and prevention policy guidelines by the hospital administration
- ItemWorking Capital Management and Business Growth: A Case Study of Katantazi Enterprises, In Kansanga Makindye Division Kamp Ala District(Kampala International University, College of Economics' and Management, 2011-08) Namatovu, IreneThis study was carried out with a purpose of establishing the effect of working capital management on growth of business organizations. The study was carried out basing on the following objectives; to establish the effective means of managing working capital, to establish the relationship between working capital and business growth and to examine the different factors that affect business grow. The methodology used both primary and secondary data sources through questionnaires, interviews and reviewing related literature respectively. The type of research was descriptive in nature and data was mostly word processed by use of computer system. The findings revealed various management techniques for the various components of working capital, other factors that affect business growth and the relationship between working capital and business growth and showed that strong relationship exist between working capital and business growth through liquidity and profitability by maintaining a shorter net cash cycle. It was also established that if growth was to be realized in business organizations managers need to cope up with modern approaches to working capital management like economic order quantity internal controls over cash receipts and payments quickening the collection of cash maintain proper budgeting techniques and maintain good relationship with all business stake holders.
