Salient experiences and opportunities of HIV discordant couples: A case study of MJAP-Mbarara Municipal Council Clinic
(Kampala International University, School of Health Sciences, 2013-07) Nkomejimana Benon
The study was aimed at assessing the salient experiences and opportunities couples living in HIV-sero discordant go through. A qualitative phenomenological study design was employed. Purposive sample of 8 couples were interviewed and data collected was by in-depths interview. Data analysis was done using thematic content analysis. The Developmental-contextual model was adapted & modified to direct the study. The study showed that HIV-discordant couples go through a lot of difficulties in their life. They live a life of uncertainties; they lack understanding of discordance, fear of transmitting HIV to negative partner, disclosure intricacies, and reproductive and sexual life dilemma. However, on good note they observed behavior change among themselves, psycho-social support, and developmental activities improved. These are critical issues which should always be addressed by the health workers and social workers.
