    Parents Attitude towards the Universal Primary Education in Tororo municipality

    This study was designed to investigate parent's attitudes towards the Universal Primary Education (UPE) programme in Tororo Municipality, Tororo district. A sample of five government aided primary schools were used. These included Chamwinula, Agururu, Juba, Amagoro and Tororo College primary schools. The parent's attitudes on the UPE programme was investigated under the help of three research questions; 1. Reasons for introducing the UPE programme 2. Parents attitudes towards the UPE programme 3. The relationship between parent's attitudes and learner academic performance in primary schools under the programme. The respondents to this study were parents, teachers and pupils - drawn randomly from the above selected schools. Questionnaire observation and interview were major instruments used for data, collection. 1· he study is comprised of five chapters each presenting its own items. Chapter one handled the the introduction to the study; chapter two, literature review; chapter three methodology; chapter four data presentation and interpretation and chapter five presented discussion: conclusion and recommendations. The study ·findings revealed that majority parents and teachers posses positive attitude towards the UPE programme but recommend further improvements by all stakeholders. A number of recommendations were made so as to help in bridging the identified gaps.
