    Teacher Quality and Students’ Academic Performance of Selected Secondary Schools in Central Equatoria State South Sudan

    The purpose of the study was to establish the level of teacher quality and students’ academic performance in the four selected secondary schools in Central Equatoria State in South Sudan. The study employed descriptive survey research design and data was collected from 178 respondents (87 teachers and 90 students) using researcher’s devised questionnaires for teachers and. students. Questionnaires were coded and data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study revealed that teacher quality was low and Students’ performance was not very good (average 58.71). The study also indicated a significant and positive relationship between the two variables. The study concluded that the level of teacher quality as well as students. performance was not very good because of the low knowledge of the subject matter of the teachers. The study recommended the government to put more effort in teacher training institutes to ensure production of well-trained teachers and teachers should be paid well and timely to curb the issue of teachers absenting or late coming for lessons.
